Master Classes

Ipswich City Council conducts Master Classes in August each year to encourage and advance the development of excellence in young performing artists in a range of cultural disciplines including:

  • Voice
  • Drama
  • Instrument
  • Dance

Professional enhancement opportunities for a limited number of outstanding students is provided by appropriate Masters (qualified and recognised individuals within each discipline). The successful students are provided with a Cultural Bursary to enable them to attend the Master Classes for free. The selection of Bursary Winners and Masters is guided by the regional professionals within each discipline.

The first round of Master Classes was conducted in May 1995 and the program remains the only Master Classes initiative of its type conducted by local government in Australia.

Ipswich City Council Master Classes are conducted in various venues in and around the Ipswich Civic Hall. Viewing is free to the public.

Cultural Bursary nominations are by application and close in March each year for the following August's program.

  - Instrument Master Class  2008 Master Class Instrument Criteria Sheet 2008 Master Class Instrument Criteria Sheet (PDF, 452 kb) 

INSTRUMENT CRITERIA to be addressed by nominee on the Nomination Form and the Instrument Criteria Sheet.

1. Open to Stage Band Instruments.

2. Instrument Audition criteria sheet must be submitted with Nomination Form.

3. Auditions may be conducted on Sunday 30 March 2008 in the Ipswich Civic Hall (if necessary).

 - Voice Master Class  2008 Master Class Voice Criteria Sheet 2008 Master Class Voice Criteria Sheet (PDF, 0 bytes) 

VOICE CRITERIA to be addressed by nominee on the Nomination Form and the Voice Criteria Sheet.

1. Age 16- 30 years by 31 December 2008

2. Two well prepared contrasting pieces of music from Musical Theatre of a contrasting nature.

3. Voice Criteria sheet and sheet music for songs must be submitted with nomination Form.

4. Auditions may be conducted on Sunday 30 March 2008. (Both works to be prepared for this)

  - Drama Master Class     

DRAMA CRITERIA to be addressed by nominee on the Nomination Form only.  (no criteria sheet required)                   

1. Age 16 years and over by 29 August 2008.

2.Demonstrate full details of drama experience and current involvement.

DANCE CRITERIA to be addressed by nominee on the Nomination Form and the Dance Criteria Sheet.

1. Aged 14 years by the 31 December 2008.

2. Must have experience in jazz.

3. List experience and/or exams in Jazz on the Dance Criteria Sheet

4. Dance Criteria sheet must be submitted.
